Fixing Your Rabbit Corkscrew

Rabbit Corkscrew

People that own a rabbit corkscrew will notice that, after a couple of tenths of pulls, the screw will start rotating in the wrong direction. And that means that instead of pulling the cork up the bottle, you can accidentally push it further in, or simply break it into two pieces by piercing the whole thing. If this happens with your accessory, then you can try to follow the next steps in an attempt to fix it yourself.

Step 1: Watch the rabbit corkscrew’s pins when you place it on the bottle. You have to identify the position in which they clamp on the bottle. At this point you should be able to see that there are two pins, which should not allow the opener’s screw to rotate the other way.

Step2: Locate those two pins of the rabbit corkscrew that are situated below the two handles you move. The pins should be pretty tight on the neck of the bottle. What keeps them there are two bushings on the inside, that can be made out of plastic or another stronger material. They look like small regular bushings, as a thin circle.

Step 3: Remove the covers and see where the bushings are placed right now. If they have traveled onto the outside part of the rabbit corkscrew, then this is where your problem resides. In order for them to do their work right, they have to be placed lower.

Step 4: At this point, fix the rabbit corkscrew by placing the bushings into their initial position. Depending on its material and on the opener’s size, you have to use some kind of thin kitchen tool, as a fork or knife, so that the bushings can be equally pushed back into their initial location. Once it is back inside, assemble the handles and try to see if the rotation movement is correct.
